Adaptive Controls & Workshop

Engineering your freedom

Bespoke vehicle modifications for your physical needs

Discover The Possibilities

You may believe your physical limitations make driving in Adelaide impossible . Most people do not know that specialised technology exists to bridge the gap between their current capacity and the driver seat. We start with a standard car and build up until mobility is achieved.

The Mark Fraser Workshop

Mark possesses a unique triple capability as a technician, a mechanical engineering problem solver, and an instructor.

Because he has a motor racing and metal fabrication background, he can prototype custom solutions in his personal workshop when standard equipment is not suitable.

He has been known to machine mounting plates and bespoke adapters to ensure a modification fits very specific client needs.

When Standard Cars Won't Do

Standard vehicle controls are not designed for limited grip, right-side mobility restrictions, or pedal reach issues . Reaching for a standard indicator stalk or applying a heavy brake pedal can become a physical barrier to your independence.

Mark is one of very few instructors in Adelaide equipped to work with modified controls, providing the expertise that generic schools cannot offer.

Hand Control Systems

We offer both trigger-based electronic systems for natural acceleration and floor-mounted push-pull options.

Satellite Accelerators

These thumb-operated controls allow for natural two-handed steering while managing your speed.

Left-Foot Accelerators

Our training vehicle allows the right pedal to fold up and the left pedal to fold down for drivers with right-leg limitations.

Spinner Knob Options

We carry electronic, pole, and tri-spinner designs to suit varying levels of grip strength.

Technical Engineering Advocacy

We coordinate with vehicle modifiers and engineers to ensure your custom equipment meets all professional Australian standards. Mark provides precise technical specifications that satisfy both your medical assessment and government safety requirements. We bridge the technical gap between engineering blueprints and your personal mobility requirements in the Adelaide Northern suburbs and beyond.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I trial these controls before modifying my car?

A: Testing your fit. Our training vehicle is equipped with over $30,000 worth of kit that allows for eight or nine different driving configurations. You can trial multiple hand controls and accelerators in a single lesson to see which feels most intuitive. This discovery process ensures you only invest in equipment that works for you.

A: Engineering problem solving. Many adaptive driving instructors can teach you how to use standard gear, but Mark can solve problems when standard gear doesn’t quite do the job. His ability to prototype custom solutions means we do not give up on clients whose physical needs might be considered “too difficult”.

A: Professional safety standards. All equipment we trial and specify meets strict Australian Design Rules (ADR) and professional engineering standards. All modifications to your vehicle will be carried out by the certified modifiers of your choice ensuring the final result is fully approved by South Australian transport authorities. This protects your safety and your insurance.

A: Building muscle memory. If you have driven before, you can often learn to use hand controls in four to six hours. This is however a very general guide. Some may require less time, others could require much more before they feel safe and confident driving in a totally new way. We provide a safe environment to build this muscle memory until the new controls become second nature.
