Driving with hand controls was once seen as a last resort. It was difficult, control was not always as good and driving long distances was not enjoyable.
That was before the new ranges of electronic control systems became available.[iframe id=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/rvAzenceCH0″]
A client driving for the first time with one of our Fadiel Italia Hand Control systems recently had this to say – “it’s fabulous, so much more natural, it’s how I was taught to drive, two hands low on the wheel for best control”.
After trying conventional hand controls, we were moving up to the Fadiel brake arm with electronic accelerator. Within five minutes she was using the new controls like she had been doing it for years. Smoothly moving from accelerator trigger on the brake arm to the toggle lever with two hands on the wheel and back again as needed.
After driving for almost an hour she reported no fatigue, no wrist discomfort and was completely confident she could drive “all the way to Brisbane” with this system. Driving with hand controls was now a natural thing. She knew she could drive anywhere she wanted. She would be just as confident as she was before needing to drive with hand controls.
Two years ago I didn’t know these systems existed. Now I have them available in my driving school car for clients try out, helping them become confident, safe drivers using hand controls.
Spending time driving with these controls I have at least as much control over accelerator and brake as I do when driving with my feet. I recently needed to brake from 110 kph avoiding a large truck that turned across my path. Reacting to the situation was easy and quick for both braking and accelerating away again.
If you are wondering about driving with hand controls, give it a try. It is much easier that you may think especially with the systems now available. There are even options for driving from a wheel chair. If you have the ability, there are so many options. We can help you find a way.
